The present paper discusses how abstract thought of the Mongolians is reflected in Mongolian idioms and phrases in terms of cognitive linguistics. She examines how Mongolians perceive the abstract concept “yхаан” (intellect) and reflect their understanding in proverbs, collocations, the triads of the universe, riddles and idioms based on the previous scholars’ hypothesis and theories about the concept and metaphor which are the key concepts of cognitive linguistics. As a result of her research, she assumes that Mongolians perceive the concept “ухаан” as a real object “юм” (thing) experiencing with their senses and life.
